PALS-K, PALS español (K and 1-3), and PALS Plus each provide alternative forms for assessment for grades kindergarten and higher. Form A and Form B are equivalent forms that assess the same skills, but use different test items. For example, they both assess spelling, but use different words for the task. The same form for the assessment should be used in both the fall and the spring. Many districts alternate between Form A and Form B from one school year to the next. Form C is the PALS Mid-Year assessment (English version only) for grades K-8 every year; it does not alternate. Schools using PALS español may use the alternate form as the mid-year assessment. PALS-PreK has only one form.
When you set your assessment date in the PALS Online System, you will be prompted to also select the assessment form. Be sure to select the form that matches the Teacher Set you are using. Once scores have been entered, the form cannot be changed until the scores entered for this window are deleted.
PALS Consumable Sets include Student Score Sheets, Class Summary Sheets, Spelling Sheets (K-8), and kindergarten Student Booklets.
PALS-K and PALS español-K Student Booklet consumables are required for assessment. It is also recommended that teachers use the Spelling Sheets provided. All other consumables are purely optional.
Print-friendly version of the PALS Consumables may be downloaded from any PALS Online account. Alternatively, you may request that they be shipped to your school, for only the cost of shipping, for the number of student packages purchased. Remember to use the consumable form (A or B) that matches the Teacher Set you are using.
Alternatively, you can skip the paper, and enter scores directly into the PALS Online System while you assess, and let the online system calculate the scores for you!
Updates to Materials
While the 2017 editions of the PALS assessments are presented in a new binder format with some revised introductory chapters, there have been no changes either to any benchmarks or to assessment content for 2017-18.
If you are using older PALS materials, please see the “Materials” tab in your PALS Online account for replacement pages and a crosswalk document.
